Claudia Esparza is a Catalyst for Change and Inclusion

Claudia shares how she helps create a supportive workplace for LGBTQIA+ at the plant in Monterrey, Mexico.

We are passionate, pioneering people who believe that what we do has the potential to change the world. Through our diverse, inclusive culture, our people are building a workplace where we embrace and uplift each other.

Claudia Esparza is a change agent (OPEX) at the Trane Technologies plant in Monterrey, Mexico, actively promoting changes within the work environment and ensuring organizational effectiveness. But the work she does for the plant goes beyond her job role. Claudia’s helped transform work culture, playing an instrumental role in promoting diversity and inclusion and helping build a supportive environment for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

When the Monterrey plant started the Pride Employee Resource Group two years ago, Claudia joined the group, recognizing that she could help create a safe and comfortable workplace that celebrates authenticity and acceptance.

“I’m proud to be a member. Since the group began, we’ve created different information campaigns about the LGBTQIA+ community to share the importance of respect and acceptance and help create a safe and comfortable workplace for everyone,” shared Claudia. “I actively engage with employees and allies and encourage them to ask me questions about the community. I'm helping create a space where employees can have open dialogue and learn.”

A safe space for LGBTQIA+

This year Claudia is helping the Pride ERG coordinate a conference on allyship where employees can learn how to be allies. She’s also getting the company registered to earn certification from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation Equidad as the best inclusive company to work for in Mexico.

“It’s exciting knowing that we’ve made progress in creating an inclusive workplace,” said Claudia. “When I first heard about Trane Technologies, it was about the job growth opportunities, which led me to apply for a role. There are so many opportunities to develop and grow. I have an excellent development plan. But what I also love about working here is the culture, and the Pride ERG has played a big role in creating a culture at the plant where members of the LGBTQIA+ community can be themselves.”

She credits the acceptance, respect, and support as the sources that have made it possible for her to reach her career goals.

“As a lesbian, knowing Trane Technologies commitment to Diversity and Inclusion has made it easy for me to feel comfortable at work, which enables me to be productive and efficient. I’ve been able to progress in my career without worrying about discrimination.”

Pride in family and community

She stays busy, and it’s not always easy, but she’s fulfilled and proud.

“It just feels good to be at a company where I can be myself and be supported and encouraged to reach my goals,” said Claudia.

It also feels good for Claudia to support her local LGBTQIA+ community. Beyond the office walls, Claudia, her wife, and their twins actively support many Pride Month events.

“As a family, we try to attend different events throughout the year, not just during Pride Month--from going with friends to events in our local community to participating in Pride parades,” shared Claudia. “We like to take photos to show others how beautiful our family is and how proud we are to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We want to be an inspiration to others—whether it’s families, friends, or work colleagues.”
